How to Cock, Load and Shoot a TenPoint Crossbow

Cock a TenPoint using its built-in device rather than by hand. With ACUdraw or ACUslide, engage the crank and wind until the string latches into the trigger mechanism - you will hear and feel it seat. The advantage of a crank is not just reduced effort; it seats the string the same way every time, and consistent cocking is what keeps groups tight. Follow the handle direction in your manual and keep your hands clear of the rail.

With the bow cocked and the safety on, lay a correctly-spec'd arrow in the rail and slide it back until the nock seats fully against the string - this is the step that prevents a dry-fire. Keep fingers below the rail at all times. When ready, take the safety off, aim using the sighted-in reticle (see the scope guide), and squeeze the trigger. At the end of the session, de-cock using the de-cocking guide.

Wax the string regularly and lube the rail - it is the cheapest way to extend the life of the string and keep speed up. Restringing a compound crossbow needs a proper press and is best left to a shop. As for range: TenPoint packages some bows with 100-yard scopes, but that is the equipment ceiling, not an ethical hunting distance - most hunters keep shots inside 40 to 60 yards. Practise at the distances you actually hunt, with the bolts you will hunt with.
